In the state of Virginia if you commit a "drug crime" it's considered "violent". As a violent felonist they make it 100 times harder to get your voting rights ever restored, much less your right to own or posses a firearm.
If you pay for your time it should be all done there. This is a continual depravation of people to keep people from voiting like the poll taxes and other methods that where used to prohibit voting
@porkslapper I'm sure most of us are lucky to have gotten away away with a misdemeanor or felony, think of something you got away with! We all make mistakes!
the right to vote is just that its a right along with gun rights and the whole lot. if you are an american you have these rights and they are unalienable period. if you made a choice to waive your rights or you dont know your rights you have none.rights are NOT privledges, rights are ascribed by the highest authority whatever you may call it(god allah satan paint chips whatever) the constitution was written for the govt to observe your rights and protect them that is the function of govt.
Here is another way it works, you either give us the rights of citizens, or face the revolutionary consequences. A huge portion of "felonies" are purely economic, and then when someone gets that first felony and spends their two to five years on probation checking the "yes" box on those job and apartment application form, probably end up poor and or homeless.
Also realize, you are talking about people caught and convicted, not everyone who "committed a felony" or is currently a criminal.
um a felon and i got back my right to vote i wounderd how come i can vote for the president o the USA but i can not work for the USA (navy, marine, army, etc) ??????????????????????
yea just let all the freaks and scumbags of this country vote, great idea. and i feel bad for you, cause you seem alright and everything its just that other percentile...but at the same time most of the people voting are freaks and scumbags......
I think voting is fixed. I'd never trust the U.S. government so what business does it make. As far as a job goes a misdemeanor pretty much disqualifies you for good jobs too. It's bullshit but that's America. I wish things were like the 1980's when you could just lie on a job application but computers put an end to that shit. So here we go trying to make a living with no job nobody willing to hire you so I guess we'll have to break a couple of laws to survive.
To put this in persective, a person commits a crime, becomes a felon, the public pays for their lawyer (most of the time), pays big $ for their incarceration, they still rights plus more of an advantage if the victom can't afford a lawyer, and then when they get out they are upset because the public won't GIVE THEM other freebies. PBIRV, it is not our burden to reintegrate them into society. It is their job to be a good citizen. Once proven they are 1, then let them have the right 2 vote back.
