  • Wow, this a really stupid question to ask but is Shanshou/Sanda better than Muay Thai?

  • @Mojo1982 Neither one is better than the other, they're just different. Just like tennis is not better than badminton, despite the similarities. Train the art that you like best and enjoy it.

  • Sanshou = taekwondo back-kicks, thai leg-kicks/roundhouse/clinch/knees and mongolian throws/catches in a kickboxing framework. Pretty much. The forms are a cultural contigency for authenticity. In the end though, to me it's the best way to learn how to fight naturally. Just learn 3 to 4 kosen judo techniques and practice T.Blauer's/Hapkido/Aiki etc spear techniques and you're good to go. Maybe throw in a couple of standing joint-locks just in case.

  • @blueprophet9 I think you're mistaking, Sanshou doesn't "borrow" from any of those arts. As for fighting naturally, I prefer to imitate Usain Bolt an run away, screaming like a little girl whenever somebody attacks me...

  • @ptccm

I think not. Until one can prove without a doubt that any of the primary moves are of a distinct origin in style of delivery...I'll stick to that opinion, man. Somebody attacks me they are getting a physical response(defensive reflex)...unless they have more than 2 friends around or a sharp edge.

  • @blueprophet9 To each his own, obviously. As long as your training works for you, that's the most important thing.

  • yes. the thai invented the roundhouse and the push kick, the jab, the cross, and every other move known to man. oh yeah, and everyone that wears shorts and gloves when training is automatically muay thai.

  • @Mojo1982

each martial arts has its own merit. its the master that makes all the difference =)

  • @blueprophet9 @blueprophet9 Sanshou free hand or Sanda literally free fighting or an unsanctioned fight is a Chinese hand-to-hand self-defense system and combat sport. However, as part of the development of sport wushu by the Chinese government, a standard curriculum for sanshou was developed. It is to this standard curriculum that the term "Sanshou" is usually applied. so shut up please

  • @ptccm

    Definitely.
