We went to Uluwatu Temple while in Bali, and it was breathtaking. The temple is located on these beautiful cliffs overlooking the ocean. As you walk to the dance, there are monkeys along the path, and they'll jump on you to try and steal food. This video is part of a unique Balinese dance that traditionally was used to communicate with the gods. The basic story is that Rama, the prince of Ayodya and his wife Sita are in the forest when Sita is taken by the demon king Rahwana. Sita is rescued by the monkey king Hanoman (the white monkey), but Hanoman gets caught in the act. As punishment for releasing Sita, Rahwana tries to burn Hanoman alive, but since the monkey king is magically powerful, he escapes. In this video, you see Hanoman escaping a firey death, and then teaching Rahwana and his minions a lesson. Just as a side note, the dancer stomping out the fire was barefoot!
