Learn eXpresser in less than 5 mins (MiGen). The MiGen project is tackling some thorny problems that confront all teachers of mathematics: What is algebra for? How is it useful for expressing generalisations? And more fundamental still: What does it mean to generalise in mathematics?
In the core of the MiGen system is the eXpresser microworld where students can construct models made out of patterns of square tiles. Underlying this surface goal students develop ways of thinking that underpin algebraic generalisation.

ALL teachers of math have the same problem: they assume the student already knows what the F.... they are talking about, so they LEAVE out the important stuff: like the objective, the methods. They teach "this", but come test time, they test on "that". Teachers should be taught to teach the level of students they will teach.
