"Why don't they play these songs on the radio anymore?" Simple! Radio consultants are lowlife scumbags, no different than teamsters/lobbyists in DC government, buying their CS-ing whores in congress! If I had MY way, I'd buy a struggling radio station in the Los Angeles Basin which would play all these super-ultra-rarities in regular rotation!

This man has one of the greatest voices ever. Hillbilly Heaven is where i'm heading for when it's my time, if they'll have me.This is what i call music, not that bump bump demented washing machine din they laughingly call music today.

@duchessofyorkies no it was called hillbilly music just like the song dope!

I can remember this getting an incredible amount of airplay in the early '60's on WKWK, the hot top 40 station in Wheeling, WV, at the time.
(Tex was, incidentally, the father of the late, gifted, comedic TV star, John Ritter.)

Prior to Hank Williams, "country" referred to bluegrass, and "western" referred to cowboy songs. Post-Hank (and the Acuff-Rose Nashville conglomerate), the two have always been combined.
