In our universe, Captain Picard is a depressed crew leader who is always scuppered in his plans to get promoted (or get sacked) by Commander Riker's raunchy parties. Ashamed that his entire crew appears to be inept, Picard doesn't realise that he is just as crazy as the men he leads.
