  • Everyone always says, "WAY TOO FAST." I say, this guy really knows how to enjoy Bach.

  • @gr0mithtimon Everyone knows that bachinblack94 knows the exact way Bach wanted his music to be played.

  • @nikkitytom the thing is when he plays them fast, he does them well, the notes are not smelled together into an ugly mess

  • very good.

  • Personally I find Gould's interpretations of the Inventions too fast. But I love his approach to ornamentatation and his 'detache' touch ... both right in line with the custom of Bach's day. Baroque music allowed for much more participation from the performer who was allowed and even encouraged to add or modify the ornaments. Gould adds one in the left hand opening note and two others in bars 7 and 14. And omits some in bars 9, 10 and possibly 11. I love this "participation".

  • @cwcascales Yes,Bach maybe would have loved different interpretations of his piece, but... When you wrote a musical piece, you do not only wrote a sequence of notes. You also must think at the timbre effect of the instrument, or the instruments, that you use... Music can be like a drawing, and timbre is the colour. Try to "change colour" of Bach's music is a good idea, but you must remember that your result is not the "original" Bach, is "Bach in another colour"... in black, maybe? ;)

  • @bachinblack94 - Oh, you can channel Bach? I believe that JS would have loved this interpretation of his masterpiece. Art is not stagnant. The modern piano did not exist in the early 18th century making it impossible to play his works the way that Glenn Gould was able to. I believe these interprtations are beautiful and amazing. Get over being stuck in the past and enjoy the playing of a truly remarkable genius. Bach probably played this piece many times differently himself.

  • bach is the best!!

  • @LazlosPlane Sorry, I think I was drunk when I wrote that message. Anyway, I intended that Bach wrote all his pieces for harpsichord and never for piano. So, in Bach's pieces did not existed crescendos, diminuendos, rallentandos and other exclusively pianistical effects. This is what I meant. Notice that i'm not a fanatic of the "right interpretation": i didn't said that the way Gould interpretated Bach is "right" or "wrong": simply that is far away from the intentions of Bach himself.

  • @bachinblack94 Please present an iota of evidence to back your absurd claim.
