@o9i8u7y6t5 like you say 'a loss of heritage' in the 70's and 80's when Reggae really took of back home that was a real worry. Go look up some Herbs... one of our alltime greats.

@o9i8u7y6t5 yea bo true az, this generation in maoriz and polyz its just in us now, reggae and rap music, thats what most of us grew up around on, our parents, grand parents all listend to it, its just apart of us now.

@o9i8u7y6t5 im not an expert on the subject but I do know that it soared in popularity amongst Maori after Bob Marley visited New Zealand in the 70s. They liked the political aspect of the music and used reggae as means of expressing their own struggles at a time when being Maori was not considered to be very fashionable and the NZ Government tried to minimize Maori language and culture as much as possible. Things are very different now though.
