Inspired by Johnny Depp in Alice In Wonderland reciting the first couple of verses of this poem, I decided to give it a go. I sincerely hope it's not that obvious but Scottish is not my natural accent. Clearly I stumbled on "brillig" a few times but hopefully it wasn't too bad.

The full poem by the wonderful Lewis Carroll:

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! and through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

  • It's so good I'm impressed. How did you manage to get the accent right?

  • @DuduTheFlapper Thanks. First you need to listen to people using the accent as much as possible and then it's just practice. My Scottish accent's a lot better now than it was but I'm also working on my Irish and German accents at the moment. I'm still totally failing to get Welsh, which is a shame cause that's one of my favourite accents.

  • not bad. :]

  • @54ablahblah87 Thanks. I'm performing this next Friday so the encouragement is very welcome. :)
