Well, most people probably know the Animals' version of this rather than Nina Simone's original, and I'm taking almost all my cues from the Animals. Although...nobody can get near Eric B's snarl on this one, so I'm going for something else. Though (according to Wikipedia) Horace Ott wrote the original song, partially, passing it to his partners Bennie Benjamin and Sol Marcus to finish; but Gloria Caldwell is listed as cowriter rather than Ott because of union rules. Or so it hath been said.
Kept this one very simple. One camera, one vocal, one Martin 6 string with a mike and two pickup feeds. On looking at the "official" lyrics online, I see I've been botching these for decades. Oh well. At least my botched ones make sense here, which they sometimes don't. That's folk music for ya.

  • Really enjoy this rendition of a great song.

Can't believe you have had so few hits.

  • Excellent!

  • Wow. How r u not famous? This is simply amazing

  • You know something, Al... I've never been one to like covers of any songs, preferring the originals or nothing. But I enjoy listening to your covers as well as the originals.

  • Super! The reverb puts the finishing perfect touch to a stunning performance. I've seen four-piece bands not cover that song as well.

  • wow man just wow

  • All hail the folk process! Right into favs. The Animals were part of the soundtrack to my college years. Wish I could say that that was because of an oldies craze, but that's what was on the airwaves fresh and bright at the time. All the best. ~ Mark
