Thought back then that the theme of this cartoon was post-apocalyptic since many of the scenes occur out in the middle of nowhere (wilderness).

Yes it is! It was composed by a guy named Shuki Levy. He has scored dozens of 80s cartoons, including Inspector Gadget en He-Man.
