Interacting with my blue tongues (Northern and Tanimbar). Ping enjoys sleeping on the couch and Riley is looking for a snack.
Sorry I sound so annoying; I baby talk them. :(
SOME ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS:
SUBSTRATE: Cypess mulch. Holds humidity well, resists mold, absorbent. Other keepers use aspen shavings and coconut fiber with success. Avoid Carefresh (too dry in most climates), ReptiBark (not absorbent, not so good for burrowing), pine or cedar shavings (aromatic oils).
TANK SIZE: Riley - 36x18. Ping - 48x18. Riley is small and not very active so the tank works for him right now, but I would not recommend that size for an adult all of its life. 48x18 is pretty good but may end up feeling small for larger or more active skinks. I plan to upgrade both to 6' enclosures this year!
FOOD: Blue tongues are omnivores. Mine enjoy many foods. F/T mice, snails, silkworms, roaches, Wellness or Spot's Stew brand canned pet food, all sorts of squashes (summer and winter), collards, kale, mustard greens, dandelion greens, green beans, okra, mushroom, parsnip, snap peas, all sorts of berries, apple, other fruits as a treat. Repcal Green Label calcium (without D3 added) and Herptivite vitamin supplement.
HEAT / LIGHTING: Simple incandescent flood bulb from Home Depot for heat. They are on a Herpstat II proportional thermostat to regulate basking temperature near 100 degrees. ReptiSun 10.0 fluorescent strip bulbs for UVB lighting.
WATER: Keep a clean shallow dish of water available at all times.

@2LiveCrewRemix Hey I checked out that website. I currently have a 40 gal from Petsmart, the biggest the offer. My bts is abt 7 yrs old and abt 2ft long, the same length as 2 floor tiles in a store. Trying to find a bigger tank as been a nightmare. It would be cool to have one with a front sliding door, but I didn't see that. Also I use reptile bark in the tank. What are your takes on that? And he has a couple nails that are getting long. Any ideas on how to get them trimmed?

@cstamey85 glasscagesdotcom is the site I ordered my sliding front tank from and it was shipped via UPS. Shipping was $40, but worth it. If you need to find one locally, a small specialty pet store might be your best bet. Maybe they could special order something? I tried reptile bark but it was not absorbent and it seems easier for them to burrow into the cypress mulch. My skinks' nails stay short from a rough slate tile in their tanks. But you can trim their nails with bird clippers.
