I have read tons of reviews where people complained about battery life of their Htc Evo 4g (or Evo 3D). I have even read reviews of the 3500 mAh Seidio battery where people praised it for giving them 14 hours of battery life. Really? 14 hours is unacceptable, especially for a battery that is over twice the size of the stock battery. People have complained that they charged the Evo, set it on a desk, and 6 hours later the stock battery way dead without any usage. This is crazy, so this video demonstrates that even with some light usage you can get very reasonable battery life out of this phone. Anyone that has a dead battery after 6 hours should take the thing back to Sprint because their battery is clearly defective.

Some suggestions I have (in no particular order):

- Root your phone and delete any of the pointless Sprint applications that keep running the background even though you do not use them (I deleted Sprint Zone, Sprint Nascar, Sprint TV, Nova, Blockbuster, Amazon mp3, stocks, news/weather and so on).

- Set your brightness to something reasonable (I use 50%) and only change it if you really need to. There are plenty of apps that will make this pretty painless.

- Turn off whatever radios you can (typically this includes 4G, GPS, and bluetooth). Only turn them on when you need them. I rarely ever actually need 4G even though I live in a city where there is pretty ample 4G coverage.

- Use an app to intelligently enable/disable Wifi such as Y5.

- If you don't ever use Google Talk then go into the settings of the Talk application and uncheck the automatic sign-in feature, and then be sure to sign out.

- Extend the refresh intervals for apps that automatically sync data. Do you really need Facebook checking for updates every 30 minutes and words checking every 5? If so, you're probably manually checking them at a regular interval anyway so raise the auto interval.

  • Hey Where did you get the back to your Phone

  • @shelbygt50000 It's the original cover for the Evo with an invisible shield by Zagg. I got the full body cover which has a cover for the front and back. No special replacement cover required.

  • people only have a problem with the battery when they play angry birds for hours like my mother does.

  • @LesterDarioDeLaCruz Yeah this same behavior happens on any phone...including my wife's iPhone. If you turn on the screen and all of the gizmos the (stock) battery drains quickly on any smart phone. But again this was more to dispute videos where people said they only got 5-6 hours of standby on their Evo without any usage. That's just insane. I posted a follow-up video where I show reasonable usage of the phone and still got over 30 hours. Love my Evo!

  • What are your settings? Have you done anything special?

  • @bhalbrooks Sure do...just read some of the comments I posted for this video. Unfortunately some of your usage has to do with the coverage area you are in, so poor signal typically means poor battery life. Keep in mind this was very light usage so don't expect this battery life if you made 4 hours of phone calls and streaming Pandora. I average more like 30 hours under my normal usage (see my follow-up video). I think I also got lucky with my battery too...

  • Stfu.

  • Nice! the most I've gotten off my HTC DROID Incredible is 27 hrs! Not bad considering my phone came with a somewhat small 1300MAh battery

  • I did a test. I Put my EVO 4G on the highest brightness level. Then i put the display to always on. I put it on my table til it ran out of battery life. I got about 4 hours and 15min out of it. That was on full brightness. I bet it would be even better on a lower level. Your supposed to charge your phone everyday so the time i got from it always on. Seems really good to me. So EVOS do have good battery life.

  • @IRatchett Hey as promised I made another video that shows my usage on voice calls, shows BT was on 100%, and so on. I am probably going to let it go until about 35 hours until I plug it in...which is pretty average for me. You sound like you use your phone much more than I do though so I can see why you would need the extended battery.

Anyway, enjoy and let me know if you have any questions or comments.
