Omg. Its my dream to do that roadtrip. I have been told that I am crazy anytime I mention this to anybody because of the hazards of crossing mexico due to the high criminality going on there. I'm colombian and i've been to Panama a lot and I know those countries are safe to travel nowdays. How unsafe is it to cross mexico? Any suggestions on that? Any suggeations on the type of vehicle? I own 4wd suv now

It did really well and yes, we shipped it back to the US so we're still driving it. We did have to have significant repairs done when we got back to the states from all of the rough driving - read axle and rear subframe had to both be replaced.
