POV - Inheritance by James Moll | PBS 2008

Imagine watching Schindler's List and knowing the sadistic Nazi camp commandant played by Ralph Fiennes was your father. "Inheritance" is the story of Monika Hertwig, the daughter of mass murderer Amon Goeth. Hertwig has spent her life in the shadow of her father's sins, trying to come to terms with her "inheritance." She seeks out Helen Jonas-Rosenzweig, who was enslaved by Goeth and who is one of the few living eyewitnesses to his unspeakable brutality. The women's raw, emotional meeting unearths terrible truths and lingering questions about how the actions of our parents can continue to ripple through generations.

You seem to be inferring that I am condoning their behavior by trying to understand it. Far from it.Hitler and Goeth were already living unfulfilled lives when, through circumstances, they were allowed to indulge their pedestrian fantasies of power and control. Let's face it, none of us are immune from feeling angry and cruel, from time to time.You do yourself a disservice by not trying to imagine yourself in that time,in the same circumstance.Think, 1920-40 Germany, not 2010 America.

don't know how i gonna react when i discover that MY father is famous mass murder. i think i would be ashamed & humbled 4 being a child or even born by a mass murder.

i hate all of those nazis who had damaged the whole world. even nowadays people still suffer from the 2nd world war. FUCK HITLER! FUCK GöTH & all the others

@Invocati I see that you are very youing.One day you will come up against a reality that you've never had to deal with, and you will make choices based on emotion, not rote facts. You will then be able to truly test your idea of yourself and the world.This happened to me, and fortunately I made the more evolved choice.Since then, I never judge what another man does with his life,because i realize we are never asked to tap into, or undersatand the darker aspects of ouselves until one day, we are.

He had no empathy for her at all. He only cared about himself, and since he was lonely, as with the jewish maid in the movie, he wanted some kind of company.

@Invocati I'm afraid you are so completely invested in a world where people are either good or evil, that you have misunderstood my more nuanced point, which is that HUMANS can be very cruel and animalistic,given the right set of circumstances.Goeth obviously loved his child, so he was not devoid of empathy for her pain.How do you explain that?

@Pmtmr i have watched some of your videos. i wanted to know what makes someone have such a perspective. a lot of your information is wrong. 1 - hitler did attack civilians, especially in the battle of london which is why he lost that battle. 2 - vietnam was fought via guerilla warfare, they were supplied by the soviets and had no military installations to bomb. (cold war). 3 - you've never provided unbiased proof as to 'jewish crimes'. your an interesting guy.

if everyone in the world hates each other, than no one is safe. how do you protect yourself?

@Pmtmr but if that's the case then their all sending out really mixed messages. The Koch's are libertarians and are for big business. Anthony Weiner is a democratic senator whose for abortion, green energy and regulating the private sector (especially the oil industry). if all these jews are in some giant plot together why are they opposing each other so much? why did they let obama become president? what's the point of this giant conspiracy of jews anyways?
