Imagine watching Schindler's List and knowing the sadistic Nazi camp commandant played by Ralph Fiennes was your father. "Inheritance" is the story of Monika Hertwig, the daughter of mass murderer Amon Goeth. Hertwig has spent her life in the shadow of her father's sins, trying to come to terms with her "inheritance." She seeks out Helen Jonas-Rosenzweig, who was enslaved by Goeth and who is one of the few living eyewitnesses to his unspeakable brutality. The women's raw, emotional meeting unearths terrible truths and lingering questions about how the actions of our parents can continue to ripple through generations.

I wonder, what exactly is learned from this horror by reducing people to monsters or saints?Who knows how any of us would behave given unlimited power while knowing you would be killed if you questioned your situation?Wouldn't it be much more educational to look at this as a "cautionary tale" of what we ALL are capable of, given the right time and place. If you don't think this man's behavior is in you,as well, you're obviously not very understanding of human nature.
iM SORRY BUT SHUT THE FUCK UP. YOUR TAKING A PISS. THIS MAN WAS BRUTAL BEFORE HE GOT HIS UNIFORM. HE TOOK HIS OWN INSECURITIES AND HATRED OUT BY KILLING , KILLING, KILLING.
Well, I'm sorry too, but I just don't see the world in black and white terms, the way you apparently do. Life is not like a fairy tale, my friend. There is no good guy and bad guy.We are all good, and we are all bad.Once you come to understand that, you will realize that Hitler was just a man, like you or I, who was given an opportunity to use his gifts for the good or ill, and chose the latter....just a sad, weak little man desperate for attention and respect...That's the dull reality, my friend
I really am sorry now. It's been awhile since I wrote that comment, and i forgot it was about one of Hitler's henchman. That said, the same still applies to Mr Goeth.
Hitler was disturbed. He had medical problems and events in his life made him unstable. He drove two of his lovers to suicide and endorsed a theology that killed 18 million people. Hitler took a piss. Plain and simple and his subjects let him. Their were nazis who didnt share hitlers sentiments like the one who saved Wladek Szpilman from starvation. Or Oscar Schindler himself. Dont justify somebody becuz of their conditions. Goeth was a beast who was given the power to kill indisriminately
You seem to be inferring that I am condoning their behavior by trying to understand it. Far from it.Hitler and Goeth were already living unfulfilled lives when, through circumstances, they were allowed to indulge their pedestrian fantasies of power and control. Let's face it, none of us are immune from feeling angry and cruel, from time to time. You do yourself a disservice by not trying to imagine yourself in that time,in the same circumstance.Think, 1920-40 Germany, not 2010 America.
Regarding the 2 men who tried to save the Jews-they obviously were of a higher moral character than Hitler and Goeth.Because, for us Westerners, it is so hard to believe this happened in modern history, we want to make it this grandiose war between good and evil.Sorry, it's just a testament to how vile humans can be.Sorry, kiddo, that's just the sad reality.
BTW-I agree with you that the drugs he was taking towards the end of the war, escalated his already pronounced gradual paranoia and erratic behavior, making a horrific situation, even worse.

Hatred endures still today and also those who are the victims on both sides.
