u know what. u cannot upgrade to windows 7 directly from xp. Direct upgrade is only possible from vista...u must do a clean install....

dude i got this too you cant go from xp to 7 directly you have to make a clean install, you will lose everything though so make sure to make back ups

I think the problem lies in the OS you're using... Windows XP. You can't do a "in-house upgrade" to Windows 7 from XP, unlike from Vista. You have to do a clean install by booting from disc.
