Paul Winchell was a very busy man. How he found time to do all the incredible things he accomplished is amazing. Touching solely on his voice work, he did the following characters: Fleegle, Dick Dastardly, Mr. Owl (How many...), Gargamel, Burger Chef, Clyde, Marmaduke, Goober The Ghost Chaser, The Funky Phantom, and Sam-I-Am. He also hosted the Saturday morning remake of the Australian series "Runaround". His biggest claim to fame, of course, is as the narrator of "The Untouchables". Oh yeah...and he was Tigger!

  • The narrator on "The Untouchables" was Walter Winchell not Paul.

  • I'm very nostalgic about the Burger Chef my dad used to take my brother and I to in the early 70's in Salinas, Calif. I miss that old place! :-)

  • I loved Burger Chef. If I recall, they were less expensive. Their burgers were grilled, weren't they? Loved the meal with fries and coke. Simple pleasures.

  • burger chef was owned by hardees

  • Paul Winchell was also the voice of ventriloquist dummy Jerry Mahoney during the 1940's.

  • They had almost as many locations as McDonalds then closed? Strange.

  • "Incrediburgerbly." I have to use that word.

  • I remember their version of the Whopper was called the Super Chef, while their version of the Big Mac was called the Big Chef. I remember not liking the burger bar because I could never make mine taste the same way the prepared ones did. One time they gave away Frisbee of their toy offering.

  • @dwolf4d Frank and Donald Thomas built a flame broiler (called an Insta-broiler) for Jacksonville, FL based Insta-Burger King. They thought the machine was such a good idea that they opened their own restaurant using the same flame broiler. In 1954, their Indianapolis based Burger Chef wasn't in direct competition with FL based restaurant that became Burger King.
