In which the gentleman in question gets nostalgic over some of the worst roleplaying games he's ever played. Just to emphasise; the games themselves aren't bad - but the sessions in which they were played were awful.

  • Dude, I once played a game of Dark Heresy with a group at a shop once (by the way, I'm a huge lore nerd when it comes to warhammer 40k). And the gm didn't know his fucking lore. He had it that the space marines all formed into a super chapter and made a peace treaty with the tyranids and were crusading to kill all the orks on terra. Anybody who knows what warhammer 40k is is obviousley raging or laughing right now. The game session was terrible.

  • @MrDreamblade That sounds pretty much diabolically bad.

  • @MrDreamblade Dude, I`m a huge 40k lore nerd as well, and that sounds fuck all awful. sounds like tham GM needed to play some sort of DND rather than a fixed universe than 40k. I feel for you, man.

  • @1Kinslayer My thanks for your sympathy.

  • @clackclickbang IT WAS AWEFUL!!!

  • @clackclickbang I've noticed that too. Female players don't seem to mind playing male characters that much.

As a curiosity, I'm a male player who always tends to play female characters. :P

  • @TheShamanSZ I've likewise found that female players seem to prefer to play male characters over male players playing female characters.

  • @clackclickbang I think the problem with male players is they tend to freak out when another male character romances their character.

Anyway, so far I've had several (new) female players roll male characters. As a GM, it confused me and irritated me somewhat, since I'd like the party to be a bit more diverse. Maybe they didn't want to be "different?"

  • @wormwoodz Oh I've witnessed that. Many male roleplayers find it difficult to treat female characters as anything between the scale of whore and complete hands-off material. Some male players get very intimidated around female characters.

  • @clackclickbang I think some players have a harder time separating their IRL selfs from their chars, both in perspectives and role. Which is not a problem in itself.

The problem is when they treat other gamers differently because of gender. For example, some (male) players seam to not realize that just because there is a female in your party, it doesn't mean she's interested in flirting with your character. It can be uncomfortable for the female gamer, which should never happen in a game >:(
