Japanese wasabi horseradish plants which have escaped their farm to grow feral along the stream. This is my first clip from my hike with YouTube user "crazyboyfromjapan". Poem by YouTube member
xxKaoruLoverxx :

"running wild and free!
Wasabi, wasabi,
delicious like this, to me!

A mild taste,
along the river.
Green and fine,
wind make them shiver!

A useful plant,
a green ballade!
Grown in the wild,
used in a salad."

  • hey you are very intelligent if i ever come to japan i want to go on a hike with you lol

  • @ladyzmann Thank you for the nice words. I'd love to take you hiking if you come to the Shizuoka area! Have a great weekend! ~Kurt :-)

  • Hi Kurt: Is it almost like eatting a radish or radish sprout but tastes like a hint of wasabi flavor?

  • @FeileCase Your description hits it on the nose! The wasabi flavor is ever so distant (though certainly there) with the dominant flavor being something very similar to those little red and white radishes I remember back in the states. However, the flavor was oh, so nice perhaps due to the freshness of the leaves. ~Kurt :-)

  • wait wasabi''s are spicy whoa dude

  • @APIC4PINY4L3G Indeed wasabi is very spicy. Kiyoshi and I were both surprised to find that the leaves had such a mild taste. The actual wasabi flavor was only a very faint part. I guess that the roots might be stronger though we did not try it. ~Kurt :-)

  • I have been looking for a way to pickle Wasabi leaf. I've tasted it before and it's delicious, it was pickled together with a small relative of Daikon radish and another kind of root that was sliced before pickling, maybe it was Yam? I can't read Japanese labels, so I couldn't tell. It was an artisan company that made it, now defunct, afaik, so I'm not surprised I can't find any recipes. But, is it something you've heard of or tried before?

  • this wasabi is chili for sushi when i eat wasibi i cry so hot and rpicy i tod it was cake !!! XD LOL !?!?!?!?!?

  • @crazyboyfromjapan It should be, in a sense, similar to chocolate with cayenne pepper powder in it, not too spicy but enough to intensify the flavor. Unless it's the gag ice cream haha.

  • i have to find myself some of this "wild" wasabi but have to say that i actually enjoy the pile of green stuff with sushi sometimes alone but hey to each his own

  • nice video :D

  • You could have a wild サラダ. Wish you could find some Sansai or Takenoko.
