instead of fighting with themselves, they band together (but no all monkeys)
but these ones used rocks to fend off predators.

Present day apes are our relatives, not ancestors.
The other members of our family the "Hominidae", (chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans) are close relatives, but humans did not evolve from these apes: instead these apes share a common ancestor with modern humans.
The most recent common ancestor of the Hominidae lived some 13 million years ago
Full genome sequencing has shown that we have had 6.5 million years of separate evolution from our closest relative in the Hominidae, the chimpanzee.
