This video features Shirley Scott and Joey DeFrancesco, playing Cherokee. This was taped at the Hammond Organ Center in 1999 during the Hammond Summit honoring her. It should also be noted that Shirley was very sick and this was the last time anyone saw Shirley play in public. She was so excited by the other players that she requested to play with Joey for one song. Byron Landham is on drums and Wayne Boyd is playing guitar. May God Bless Shirley Scott.

NOTE: This was recorded on a HI-8 analog video camera and then transferred to digital tape in 2005. We are sorry for the wow and buzzing.

  • what happened to shirley scott is very sad. we should be glad for time she was here and the music she played. i learned a lot about playing the hammond from her and i'm sure a lot of other B3 players owe some of their chops to her. there WAS a lot of history that night, for sure. all those players in one room. geez.

  • @shnewsman Thank you for your comments. She was a special person and yes! The night was special with all those players who were there to honor her and to enjoy each other. There were no egos there, just friends.

  • Your very welcome.

  • For those of us that had the pleasure of attending this event, It was an honor to be a part of history. It took all of the strength she could muster up to play that night, but it was something she just needed to do.

  • That was a great night! Thanks for posting these videos Tom!
