On July 16, 2009, Sen. Mark Begich participated in a hearing of the Senate Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight, chaired by Sen. Claire McCaskill. The hearing discussed the role Alaska Native Corporations have played in the social and economic development of communities across Alaska as well as their participation in the Small Business Administrations 8(a) program.
In this video, Sen. Begich provides his impressions of the hearing, discusses the important role Alaska Native Corporations play in the state and praises the support he has received from other senators.
The hearing took place in the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee's Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight. During the hearing, testimony was presented by Sarah Lukin, Executive Director of the Native American Contractors Association, Julie Kitka, President of the Alaska Federation of Natives, and Jacqueline Johnson Pata, Executive Director of the National Congress of American Indians.
