Ginger Rogers and Jack Oakie sing "How I Wish I Could Sing A Love Song" from 1930, in her first STARRING role . I omitted most of Jack Oakie's vocal. Although he sings acceptably in other films, here he tries to 'croon' with a less than desirable result

  • Great, thank you, that's a very precious Historical Document, you're so Generous.

  • Yes, thanks. This is from "The Sap From Syracuse"

  • Do you have the whole movie?

  • Yes, it is pretty entertaining, but this the only musical number in it. I'd consider it one of the earliest "screwball comedies".

  • Adorable clip!!!!

The reason that Jack's voice sounds so rough is because he had just had a throat operation for a terrible infection. He contracted this in May of 1930 while they were working on this movie. His voice ended up slightly deeper as a result, in the end. He was back to work sooner than he really should have been, too, which probably did not help his voice. I read about this in the newspaper reports of the time (1930).

  • Thank you for sharing this. :0)

  • Ginger's voice was so cute when she was younger!

  • Interesting how Ginger was changing not only in her image but also in her performances doing more in a easy going way. Thanks for sharing such rare document.

  • Thanks a lot, mais de profil elle est moins charmante que de face.

Encore merci for all these singing gems
