This is my small contribution to a large project put together for the province of Ontario and government of Canada. This project is called "Second Career". This was developed by The Ford/CAW Local 200 Workers Adjustment Center. This video was put together for members of provincial and federal government to raise additional funding for retraining of laid of C.A.W. employees.

I received retraining as a Heavy Machinery Operator and I am now a full time employee at ETR, a local railway.
Thank you Second Career...

Hope you enjoy it....

Lyrics

Twenty years in and they're pushin me out the door
They took my job away they don't need me anymore
Tossed me aside like I didn't mean a thing
Now I don't know where to go

I look in the paper every single day
And I can't find anyone hiring
Seems like I've been searchin for so long
I pray to god that things will change

And who are you to tell me I'm just a number
I can tell you I'm so much more
I've got a family and a life I wanna lead
All I need is a little help

To get back on my feet
To get back on my feet

Some good news came by way of telephone
They said I should go back to school
So afraid cause it's been so damn long
What else do I have to loose

Got educated so now I'll try
To fix my life up once again
Now I'm walkin around with my head held high
I can see a light at the end

But who are you to tell me I'm just a number
I can tell you I'm so much more
I've got a family and a life I wanna lead
All I need is a little help

To get back on my feet
To get back on my feet
To get back on my feet
To get back on my feet

So if you're willing to give it another try
All we need is a helping hand
See it in your hearts to open up your arms
And give someone else another chance

To get back on their feet

  • I'm happy it all worked out for you. I was laid-off from 707/Oakville. Went to VIP and they said I didn't meet the matrix of 15 so after paying into EI for 20 years I could not get 1 red cent of retraining from them. Bullshit.

  • @fglass101

Sorry to hear that....I got lucky I guess. I had a friend that quit Toyota to go back to Ford in Oakville and lasted a couple months then got laid off again. It sucks big time!! Keep your head up....I hope somethin turns out good for you....

  • Thank you for this. I'm applying for Second Career myself and it's great to see the success stories. :)

  • Thanks, good to hear. Just don't go into the Heavy Equipment Course....really hard to make a go of it. Pick something else, just my opinion anyhow....

    Good Luck

  • Great video, and congrats on your success! I wish the Government would support our students more by lowering the cost of education. Supporting learning is vital to strengthening our economy and keeping competitive with other countries.

  • I agree with you 100%. Lowering costs would be a step in the right direction. Thanks for your comment...

    Take care
