depends on what part of the bus, if you are sitting right at the point of impact it wouldn't really matter which you were in.

now try being a very soft easily damaged human sitting in that giant steel cage with no restraints at all. if that bus was full when it was hit the people would be flying like pinballs, striking the steel seats, floor and ceiling. maybe it is more structurally sound, but it lacks so much in other forms of safety I think I'll take the smaller car any day. With a crash at that high of a rate of speed being able to dampen all the energy being transferred into your body is a necessity.
