It was developed on Linux then ported to Windows/Mac. I've personally ran the later builds on ubuntu back in 2008. You should check out the python libs that Matthew Marshall and Joey Marshall coded during the project. Like "Rabbyt" if your working with python on a game. You can really get a lot done in python and use c libraries for heavy lifting.

if your wanting to show game videos, try fraps or similar. otherwise the quality is so bad that nobody wants to watch it!
otherwise, I think snowballz is a great idea..
