Watch NATURE Sunday, August 12 at 8 p.m. (ET) on PBS (check local listings) for an encore presentation of HOLY COW.

In NATURE's HOLY COW, viewers visit one of the leaders of the "alternative" ranching movement, Colorado's Lasater Ranch.

There, the Lasater family is demonstrating that they can raise high quality, organic beef using methods that many experts say are friendlier to the environment -- and healthier for beef eaters.

  • i have respect for this guy.

  • people act like it's wrong to slaughter animals for food. The fact of the matter is that most animals kill other animals for food. How are we any different? Give me some Grass Fed BEEF

  • I respect this guy, cows are kind animals.

  • I tried green beef.

But it tasted like it was off.

    I prefer brown.

  • Thank god, spark of optimism. i have visited PETA website and now it is nice to see this video.

  • a testament to the relationship between man and beast

  • pretty cows, you almost feel bad eating them :) seeing how they interact with eachother... well.... I can say all these nice things, in the end I'm just too lazy and careless to do anything about it :) but it is an improvement, this alternative ranching...

  • yeak stek I love it

    :)

  • Mmmmmm steak

  • AKA is crap dogs, and if you do not have a coyote problem dont kill them.... If you were to kill one they will let a new member in the pack and that might be a killer of live stock... Know body likes them but be sure what you are killing... Have farmed for 30 years. Know prob know kill Mel

  • Somebody gets it! Although I don't understand why he doesn't have LGD... AKA Livestock Guard Dogs. They keep coyotes away. They don't even have to kill them.. coyotes are scared of them.

  • I like this farmer. I wish we could see more of these people raising they're cattle the way they were along time ago. Those cows are beautiful.
