I noticed the same thing many years ago on my first trip to Colombia. The street urchins never wore shoes and their toes were even more splayed than his and the foot much wider than what we consider normal.

@greenteagod Haha Jesus that's hilarious that anyone picked up on that. Youtube must be a learning experience for you invisible!

@greenteagod I think many people wear shoes that are too narrow for them without realizing. One way to tell is to look at one of your feet when you have most of your weight on it, and see if the sides of the shoe bulge out past the sole of your shoe. Of course this may only work with an older pair of shoes that are a bit worn out.

Oh I forgot to mention my age, I'm 24 so not that very old.
500 lbs deadlift is freaking heavy lol, a whole lot more then I can handle. Great excercise though, I might go to the gym and do heavier deadlifts someday. I have a bar and 70kg of weights at home, but that's too little weight to deadlift if you want to build real strength, I think it may be contraproductive in the long run. =/
PS: Good luck with your sprinting mate, hope you reach your goals someday soon! =)
Random question here. In checking out your videos and pics on your site I can't help but notice the splay of your toes. Have your feet always been like that or is that something that's developed more with barefoot running? Just curious.
Also I just ordered a diy kit so I'm looking forward to it either way.

@greenteagod I don't know how/if my "toe splay" has changed, because I haven't really paid attention to it, and don't have some way of measuring the before/after. But I can tell you this: The first pair of Invisible Shoes that I made for myself (18 months ago) no longer fit. They're a bit too narrow. So my midfoot has gotten a bit wider since I've gone barefoot/minimalist full-time.

You think these shoes will work if you're doing sprint running on asphalt? I'd like to give it a try someday but not sure if they can withstand the forces of the start?

@Jetpilotwacker Depends on how fast you are, and it depends on how you tie them, and it depends on your sprinting form. I'm a 48 year old sprinter -- 7.79 60m, 12.1 100m. While I've been able to wear my Invisible Shoes for sprinting, I typically wear them for anything slower than 14 second 100m and then put on my spikes for anything faster.

@invisibleshoes
Thank's mate!
My PB on 60 m is 8.27 so I'm not very fast yet. I'll probably beat that time quite easily this year though as I've found that plyometric excercises (in this case squat jumps) REALLY helps to get more explosive starts and speed pickup. That has been my weakest point for a long time so that's what I'm working on atm. I can't see myself getting down to 7.5 sec or something like that though, I think I'll stay on high 7's or very low 8's for a long time. =)

@Jetpilotwacker Plyos are a big help. Just getting stronger is another. I'm a huge deadlift fan. My 1RM is just under 500 lbs now; I weigh 147... and I can definitely feel the effects of that. You didn't mention your age, but at *my* age, a 7.5 60m would put you in the top 5 in the country. If I can get into the 7.6s, I'd be THRILLED.
