The sudden gush of wind causes the baby not to breathe, the same way when you stick your head out of a speeding car (going above 120km/h) and can't breath!

hm....that's kind of a stretch about a storm theory...i'm not sure many mothers, even in paleolithic times wouldn't shelter their baby from the rain. i think there may be a different reason for this, because i do notice this in every baby i can think of.
