Thank you. My father is first generation American-borne Lithuanian. He spoke only Lithuanian until he went to school at age 5. Then he was required to speak only English. The only phrase he remembered was "I love you"As tave myliu".
I will be watching these tutorials over and over, so that I may learn our language. Thank you.

The variety of family member words and regional dialect variations are quite interesting. Another way to present this material is to talk about one's own family - which I hope to do in Lithuanian soon ! Aciu !

My last name is Senules. Does this have a meaning in Lithuanian?

@paulpittsburgh
Well Senas means old, however I do not think we should look so deep into this.
it might be it was derived from old as it has similar root. Otherwise the surname as it is now does not mean anything.
Oh if you would change two letter - senutės - this could be old ladies, the plural form of senutė.

what about tevukas for grandfather?
boredtoexhileration 2 years ago
You can also say Tevukas for grandfather. It is more the word that ppl grow up saying which means grandfather for them. Although in dictionaries you will not find tevukas as grandfather.
ppl also say bočius, senolis, senelis. I grew up saying senolis, which for some ppl is very unusual.
