I've had the Gibson Burstbucker #3 for quite a while. I originally purchased it for my Gibson LP but when fitted in the bridge it felt as if it had nothing to give. I used it as a neck pickup on another guitar for ages. I recently tried it in the bridge on this guitar and was really quite impressed with the output and that lovely vintage edge on the highs. Surprised by this perceived improvement in output it occurred to me that my Gibson LP had 300k pots at the time I tried the BB #3 whereas this guitar has 500k pots. I'm pretty sure this must account for the difference. Here it is recorded direct using the PODxt on my usual bluesy drive setting. This patch only just breaks up if the pickup has enough output so the BB #3 gives quite a cleanish rendition compared to say a DiMarzio SD on this same setting.
The track I am jammimg along to is called Schools Out by The Brand New Heavies. I just looped the first verse.
I wax-potted my BB3...BITCHES!!!!...sounded just as airy

@ColeDrankWilly - yeh Gibson have put wax potted versions on some of their guitars now - glad you mentioned it, has reminded me that with high gain standing in front of the amp at a gig they howl uncontrollably - huh why does everybody love retro designs ?!!

@lesleypaul59 hmmm - probably BB Pro but only because I'd have time to try them out while stuck on the mythical island !! Tried some 57 classics on a friends 61 re-issue SG they were nice and smooth - hard to explain, but smooth !

Great tone man! Stunning really!
How do you like the stock pickups compared to these?
I know the stock pickups are from great quality as well.

@Ekkiejj Yes the Tokai stock pickups are quite good. This is a 2008 model and I have to say that the bridge pickup was not great and certainly not as good as the current Tokai Mk II bridge pickup. I've disected all the Tokai pickups I have and then some and there is some desparity in the quality/strength of the magnets. A more recent bridge pickup has a much stronger A5 magnet. The Burstbucker has a fuller tone and seems louder.
