Help me figure out why this little guitar chord progression sounds so familiar to me. It's nothing but moving the open D chord form up and down the neck, usually letting the open D string drone.
I'm gonna take a shot and say you might be thinking of the intro to Dear Prudence by The Beatles. Many songs have been written that apply the same concept that you're using. The open D note ringing throughout the chord progression you are playing is called a pedal tone. Pete Townshend is a master of that technique. Check out the song Substitute by The Who. Also, don't be afraid to do the same thing by moving around an A chord with the A note ringing out. Cheers.
