A heavy duty EDC knife or maybe tactical folder, the CRKT Carson M4 looks to be a strong knife. With its AutoLAWKS feature, the blade is automatically locked into the open position which should preclude inadvertent closure. It does tend to become obnoxious in use however (as it makes closing tedious and it most uses isn't needed anyhow). The hollow ground, AUS-8 steel drop point blade should offer excellent utility and perhaps some tactical capabilities with its 3.6 length. Deployment with the M4 is fast and smooth with or without its removable-torsion bar (Outburst mechanism) for assisted opening (I prefer it removed in this model, as shown). Downsides would include its 5.2 oz weight, the slick Zytel handle scales and a non-positionable pocket clip (dedicated tip down). But overall this is a handsome and capable blade that will serve admirably if your system can accept the weight.///////////////////// Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 7.5 out of 10

  • This Lawks system makes me feel a lot more comfortable with linerlock knives. Hope they can improve on it in the future and make one handed retraction better/easier.

  • Do you have a review on the ken onion ripple?

  • good vids nutn

  • @LedZeppelin13k7 No he dont have any....... Have you seen his Vids? XD

  • Needs some aesthetics.

  • Thanks for the review. I watched this and went out looked at then purchased a CRKT Carson design M16-14T titanium with autolawks. I've been a spyderco guy for 13 years. The M-16 changed my EDC preference. The autolawks takes just a little practice. I was apprehensive at first. I'm one hand closing it now. I'd love it if you reviewed it.

  • several options? nutn thats an understatement

  • Could you review a CRKT Hissatsu folder?

  • Having watched most of the "Tactical Folders" playlist now, I really wish there was more of an emphasis on grip over reach and weight for the classification. I may end up going with the Endura if I decide to get one....

  • That's a way stronger looking liner lock than most CRKTs -- I thought it was a frame lock at first. Good! But calls in question whether this knife needs the AutoLAWKS gadget.

Ah, I see the annotation: Nutnfancy removed the LAWKS from this knife.

(So, with the torsion bar removed, and the lock mechanism removed, I guess it's a nice knife! ;) )

Seriously, the one thing that bugs me about the M4 is the slick handle w/ no choil. Bad on a "tactical" knife. Form trumping functionality. :(
