@manuel1964ism Oh it was. Most businesses were owned by Americans. Most investment came from America. Most goods went to the US at ridiculously low prices. The US was allowed miltary access. Most Cuban governments were mere US puppets. Besides, after the Spanish-Cuban-US war, the US was given control of Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines and Guam. I suggest you read some real history. It helps.

@Codex7777 No it wasn't the u.s did own several industries but not the majority in general. Cuba was self productive without the U.S. and was better of then most countries in the world. If you didn't know, the most productive and wealthiest Hispanics in the U.S are Cuban Americans, Cubans being a mere 4% of the Hispanic pop. in the U.S. own 50% of the wealth amongst Hispanics, and are better off then many other ethnics groups, why is it jack ass.

@Nigralurker Or the fact that Cuba was under an economic and trade blockade, orchestrated by the US and was constantly being threatened with invasion and even by nuclear attack. I'd want a strong deterrent in that situation. Btw the USSR only backed down in Cuba, when the US agreed to stop deploying missiles on the USSR border, in Turkey...
