Made popular by folksingers such as Arlo Guthrie or Johnny Cash,City of New Orleans is a song written by Steve Goodman which talks about the so called train that goes from Chicago Illinois central station to New Orleans. The words recall the way from north to south across the land and the landscapes the train passes through during the day of trip.Jerry Reed arranged this song in the 1970's and the part I play here is what he did to accompany himself on the guitar while singing! It gives an idea of what he was capable of.I think it works very well with the guitar part alone, and hope you'llenjoy it.In fact,I knew the melody long before I find out the original version because frensh singer Joe Dassin had realised a very nice arrangement of this song and called it "Salut les amoureux".
