Every one of the NYS Thruway RRs have the Double R on the menu. They have to make it for you, which takes less than 5 minutes, but they have it. And it tastes just as good as I remember. That & the Gold Rush Chicken sandwich are my favorites. I also like their fried chicken & biscuits. The Fixin's Bar and BBQ & horseradish sauces kick ass. My brother told me the one in I-95 in MA also makes the Double R if you ask for it. I didn't know that last time I was up there.

@AllisonTheSNLGuru Something to keep in mind: if you live locally the thing you have to remember are these are service station based restaurants therefore you want to go during peak hours where there is a fast turnover of food. For example, the GC Roy Rogers (service entrance) is located near a school so a lot of teachers head there on their lunch breaks so that is when I usually try to stop in as well. Burgers are always juicy and fried chicken always hot.

I loved Roy Rogers.
One of the few fast food places that used quality bread for their buns; not the damp, mushy, flavorless bread that places like McDonald's or Burger King uses.

Roy's was my first job. Sundays would be killer! Solo in the back frying chicken, making biscuits, mashed potatoes gravy, taking out the trash, handling a truck delivery of chicken & what I hated most, cleaning the deep friers. All for $4.50 an hour!

they had or still do have amazing food!

@Shakeshack78 Hey!! I remember making $3.35 back then too!! Roy Rogers has the best roast beef sammich anywhere!
-
I worked at a Roy Rogers when this commercial aired!! I made some great friends who I'm still very close to today............I'm a Godfather to one's son, as a matter of fact!! $3.35 an hour but great memories!!!

@AllisonTheSNLGuru u should go there too if theryre close to u..its awesome
i've only seen them on the NJ turnpike now, everything went downhill on their menu but again, maybe its just the turnpike prep. The roast beef used to be the bomb, but the last time i went it was tough jackass meat. I still love their bbq sauce at the fixin's bar. RIP Double R Buger...we need it back!

@fastnoypi - One of my co-workers recently went to the one in the Grover Cleveland Rest Stop on the Turnpike when he was driving home from LaGuardia about 2 months ago...he got the chicken tenders and he said they never lost their appeal...

@AllisonTheSNLGuru ..your co-worker might be lucky guy. Perhaps that stop was one of the better ones. I've had the same bad experiences at Molly Pitcher, Walt whitman and the Richard Stockton stops. The very last time i was at the Walt Whitman stop, 5 kids in line ahead of me were already complaining that the fried chicken was cold under the lamps, so the employee nuked them again till warmed up.

@fastnoypi - Yes, he was very lucky. He was happy with it, in fact, he took some of it home and nuked it at work the next day. Sounds like all the ones you hit are in the southern part of the state. I've never heard of the Richard Stockton stop, but I did go to the college.
