My personal cover performance of Crosby Stills & Nash "Carry On" from the album "Deja Vu". I used a multitrack mixing app to record each voice part... all the vocals are me; backing is a canned instrumental.

Set to a video mashup of docu footage, newsreel & stills from 1967-1969 incl Woodstock, Monterey pop, Summer of Love, Vietnam War, Chicago 1968, RFK & MLK memorials. My 6-layer vocals were mixed in Audition with reverb, EQ, compression and light doubling.

I never liked the guitar fade-out at the end, so I went with a reprise of the a capella break with an added vocal bass part. Hope you enjoy!

  • This is fantastic! You did a great job! Great vocals, great guitars, great bass, great drums... wow! How many tracks did it take? It sounds like you sang all the parts and didn't use a vocal harmony processor. Did you use a computer with a software DAW, or did you use a hardware multitrack recorder? I hope you don't mind the questions, but I do a "one-man-band" thing myself. I haven't been able to match your sound. Thanks for putting this song up for us.

  • @horizontalist I'm not responsible for any of the instrumentals...I'm just a singer! I use a Shure dynamic mic (nothing expensive) which goes straight into my PC soundcard. I use Audition as a virtual mixing environment. I do most pop harmony stuff 1 track per part, tho occasionally I double-track it. Canned chorusing fx are cheesy, so I use some subtle aux sends thru a delay/detuner module (about 20ms/5-10 cents) to thicken the sound instead, along with the normal compression & reverb...

  • INSANE GOOD. Your voice is like a locomotive's whistle blowing. Simply beautiful. Never stop. Best cover. I played this, my friend walked in, thought it was Graham Nash. If your ever playing live in Philadelphia, South Jersey area, keep me posted. You earned yourself a fan here buddy.

  • beautiful, but i think that re record the voice of stephen it was not necessary when he sings solo (sorry for my bad english...) good job man!

  • Beautiful version, love is coming.......

  • Excellent job! You have a great voice! How were you able to distinguish each of the harmony parts out? Did you have sheet music for this? Thanks for sharing!

  • Made me cry. I'm 57. You did great, man. Just great.

  • Nice one, mate. Youv'e got a nice voice.

Wow... I am beyond words, and nearly moved to tears by the haunting, ethereal beauty of the vocal harmonies.

Surprising, & yet not, that this is all you - the harmonies are so tight & well crafted... nearly choir-like in some ways.

It moves me in a manner that even the original does not seem to. Well done!

  • Dude, you blew me away. How fun! Makes me want to go through my boxes in the garage to see if I can find that bong I put away. You rock!

  • I'm floored. I was completely captivated throughout. Very very good.
