Wigans Ovation - Skiing In The Snow [UK 1975]....
Here's what the UK media believed to be 'Northern Soul' in 1975, this 45 reached #12 in the Pop Charts.
The Group were managed by the Wigan Casino management, played quite of few gigs at the Casino and by the sounds of it - had a Good time in doing so....
The Group mainly covered records that were recent plays at Wigan Casino, having hits with cover versions of Bobby Paris - Per-so-nal-ly #38 and David & The Giants - Super Love #41 All were released on the UK "Spark" label cat# SRL 1122, 1129 & 1133....
I came across a web page for the group which has some good reading and photo's from the era, got to say the Guy's look like they put their Hearts and Soul into it, but didn't quite get accepted as other singers/groups that were doing basically the same thing - covering or creating Northern Soul 45's....

Yet another reason real Soul fans deserted Wigan Casino in bloody droves following the Top of the Pops "Dancing to Footsie" debacle too. It wasn't entirely the "London Record company's" fault either. As previously mentioned, the Casino management and DJs shamelessly encouraged the free publicity, and continued to sell the scene out. (If you doubt the accuracy of this statement, read the Soul mags of the time)

"everyone" has been to the Casino, wish I did, just about made it to the 100 club in Oxford St 1983, still love the sounds even if I am a Londoner KTF
