The Lima Company Marine Memorial (July 2007 Update)

Artist Anita Miller explains in detail the identities of the Marines in the 4 panels she nearly had completed in July 2007 for the Lima Company Marine Memorial project. There are 8 panels in total with portraits of the 23 men from Lima Company 3rd Battalion 25th Regiment who were KIA in 2005. The Lima Company Memorial was first unveiled to the public on Memorial Day weekend 2007 at the Ohio State House rotunda. Wow. Very touching and brings tears to my eyes.

Why Lima Company? do you have a child / family member who is a marine? My son is in Iraq now, in Lima Company 3/6.

The artist, Anita Miller didn't know anyone from Lima Company before starting this project. She contacted the Marines after having a dream about the memorial. The rest is history I guess. Myself, I used to work with Justin Hoffman, one of the Marines from Lima 3/25. After he passed I made a small memorial video in his honor before finding out about Anita and her project. Tomorrow, the paintings leave the studio for installation at the state house.

I have a feeling Anita is going to be reading and hearing comments like this for years to come. She really did an incredible job. As the memorial starts to travel I hope it makes it to a state near everyone that wants to see it.

The February 2008 update is now up. Youtube won't let me reply to this with a link so you will either have to search for it (Lima Company Memorial February 2008 update) or just click on my profile and find it there. Anita changed quite a bit of the backgrounds and finished the lower half of some of the paintings. They look so much larger now.

Glad you liked it. The artwork will be displayed for 6 months at the Ohio statehouse starting this Memorial Day. I plan on shooting some more footage of the project tomorrow. Look for a new update soon!
