Here's an idea: parody the pilgrims coming to the Americas as if they believe their God will provide for them. During a famine, God provides help in the form of caring Native Americans. The pilgrims are so horrified that the Lord would send help in the form of "Godless Heathen", that once they get their strength back they kick the Natives off their land so that they can build a church to help spread the word of God. Show Christianity in that light and perhaps people will forgive your ignorance.
