Depopulating prisons and eliminating the system of locking people up as a response to social problems is clearly the goal for most prison activists and provides the "no compromise" framework which drives most of the activism regarding jails and incarceration. David Stein talks about Critical Resistance, a national organization of individual chapters, which firmly calls for prison abolition and actively fights any expansion of the prison system. In the video he talks about some of the strategies they have used to fight new prison construction, some of the alliances created through that fight, and about the importance of fighting the creation of every new cell.
