I am actually an Australian so of course I know it is Australia Rules Football (footy), but the AFL has cleverly marketed the sport so outside of our borders thereby it now being commonly referred to as AFL so I was using the AFL term because that is the one that most people now associate with this game.

Actually it is (technically) Australian Rules Football..... AFL is the name of the league (like NBA/ MLB etc)
And PLEASE to all the US people .. we are (even us expats) OZZIES not Ossys as this tv guy called us.
