The real liberators were the Americans and British, they treated the German population with respect. The Soviet Union did not when they invaded, I do accept that the German army committed terrible crimes in the USSR. It was an awful period in world history

You're asking the right question. The russians left germany after the cold war ended. Completely. Including their soldiers. But not the american military.

on 3:45 : Bismarck was NOT a Kaiser- He was a Prince and Chancellor called `The Iron Chancellor ´
on 3:51 : its not a prison! Its the ` Citadel of Spandow (Spandau) ´
on 4:46 : called ` Kaiser Wilhelm -Remember- Church ´
on 5:04 : its not the Congress hall! Its a Opera House called ` Die dicke Auster ´ (the fat oyster)

The real liberators were the Americans and British? They helped with the liberation but without the Soviet Union the Americans and British would have failed and would be living under the reign of Nazism. The Soviets had raced to Berlin and crushed Hitler and his regime. The Americans and British were far behind, failing in France. Such crimes were lies. They were not true. The Soviet soldiers committed no crimes against the German people. The were not savages but respectful people.

thanks for sharing this.
very seldom to see footage & pictures of east Berlin in "hight definition",
in comparison to other stuff of the early 70's.
Usually east Berlin looks monochrom & surreal to me.
But this could be a few ours ago.
Thank you & regards from former east Berlin.
take care..

Nice film! Thanks for uploading! I was 9 years old in 73, growing up in Berlin.
The picture, where it says "Market Place" shows the Schoeneberg city hall, where J.F. Kennedy held a speech at one time and said "Ich bin ein Berliner" (I am a Berlinean) - really nice shots!

The Brandenburger gate is in the middle of of trees! The half of Unter den Linden is gone, i went there last year and now it is surrounderd by buildings. Same with the Hitler bunker.
Btw, Bismarck was Chancellor under Kaiser Wilhelm 1.

hehehe...hitlers bunker is now a parking lot between social housing and the holocaust memorial...times are changing ;)

Ha, you can see the Teufelsberg Radar Station at 4:49, it looks so close due to the telephoto compression!

Great music !!!

At 0:58 is that The Church of Reconciliation?
It was demolished in 1985 as it was in the path of the death strip & was deemed an "obstruction of view" for the border guards. 4 years later, the regime collapsed.
-
@LeamingtonSteve true. The last troops left germany in 1994.
-
@KRAFTWERK2K6 Kraftwerk, I went to Berlin in 1993 and the Russians were still there then- although about to leave....
-
boah, wie geil!!!!
-
you should go back there now and see it again. You will see Karl-Marx-Allee renovated and the Cfe Moskva still there. But all is new and nice now. Berlin is worth a trip again.

No, you don't get it...do you? I have family that DIED for Germany during the war and they were DISRESPECTED by SCUM like you after it. Got ZERO pensions for nearly thirty fucking years. You got that? The fact is you are defending the Russians who built fucking memorials to THEIR ARMY on GERMAN soil while they terrorized the German population at the end of the war. I'd expect nothing less than an idiot like you not to understand your own heritage.
-
@HokiesAndDawgs What the hell is wrong with you, you fucking prick! I haven't defended anyone. I just said the truth. The russians pulled their military out of germany. But the US military didn't. But truth is what nazi scum like you are having a big issue with. It's not about nations. It's about power to rule & how we're beeing ruled by a small fashist elite. Never heard of the Bilderberger?
-
Seeing that Soviet War Memorial knowing what those savages did during WWII makes me sick. I know The Furher must have rolled over in his grave.
-
BTW - The savage Russians were also the ones that brutalized your country during WWII after the war was over. My Great Uncle was in the SS. I know what it was like and the Russians were savages and for you to defend them shows your ignorance to your own heritage.
-
LOL...you're joking, right? The Russians at the top of the USSR were pulling ALL the strings in East Germany. Learn some history.
Sorry, all I have is already on youtube. If I had known how interesting these movies would be 40 years in the future I would have used all my spare time filming.

Pretty cool, thanks for sharing!
I was expecting to see more wall photos, but I guess the tour bus probably had a designated route keeping clear of it... just guessing.
-Just for fun, if I was to guess the kid's age now, @0:10, I would say 41yrs old... Am I close?

@bruno2260 You are right about the wall on the East side. We didn't see any of it from the bus and would not have been allowed to photograph it anyway. Very close on Jennifer's age, born 1971. OMG I have a child that is almost 40. Interesting website about American military in Berlin: berlin-brigade.de

What is the image 3:02-3:07? I was stationed from '74 to '76 with 4/6. Long time ago in a galaxy far away. Thanks for the vid.
Lonette 1 year ago
@Lonette The image is Unbekannter Soldat or in English: Unknown Soldier Memorial. The soldiers marching in the previous scene were the guards of the Memorial. Yes, it was in an era and an alien life that I miss very much.

Wow. That was great. What was the music?

I don't remember the name of the music. I'll need to do some research and get back to you.
