Hank had Nystagmus surgery 9/25/07
Surgery was done at Pittsburgh Children's Hospital by Dr. Richard Hertle who specializes in Albinism eye issues. This was taken about 2 months after surgery.

We are happy with the outcome of the surgery. The dr explained ahead of time that surgery would not stop it entirely. It did reduce the severity and improved his visual functioning to a degree. He is still legally blind due to other eye structure issues that are not correctable but he can use the vision he does have better now than before the surgery. All in all, it was absolutely worth it.

Hank was adopted from China in 2006

  • He is adorable! Where is he from?

  • @MilkyStreets Hank is originally from Suzhou

  • What a handsome young man he is! My daughter had a VERY severe nystagmus that Dr. Hertle worked miracles on last year. The doctor has left the hospital in Pittsburgh... do you know where he went or do you know of another doctor? My daughter's case was so bad, we knew up front it was going to take 2-3 surgeries or more. She's had one and we're ready for the next step, but I'm not sure where to go.

  • @bulldogma I have heard that Dr. Hertle is moving to the Children's Hospital in Akron OH and will be starting sometime this summer.

  • Hank is awesome! You are so blessed. What made you want to adopt a child his age, rather than an infant? Has it been hard for him to fit in at school? Has he adjusted well in your family?

  • after learning that many people with nystagmus have poor vision, i am so grateful that i've got decent (close to 20/20) vision. while it can be very annoying, i'm able to adjust my head so that my eyes dont shake at all...it's strange. only at certain angles or contexes while my nystagmus make itself apparent. i have light distance glasses but that has nothing to do with nystagmus...

  • hello, do you know if there is no cure nystagmus pro?

  • I have albinism too but does he have eyelashes I know sometimes some people that are albino look like they don't have eyelashes when they do

  • this kid is a genuine albino huh?

  • SANTA WONT GIVE ME GUNS!

  • OMG, i love him!

  • is he albino? thats interesting!

  • @YTcapper100 wow bro, i can't believe you think that way about the kid.... not cool man

  • @YTcapper100 Meet me and I will run you through myself. Fools like you made me a human hater.
