A documentary about the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. This is the trailer for the 54 minute documentary. The film was screened at the St. Louis Film Festival and the Los Angeles Catholic Film Festival
I was also taught by the Sisters of St. Joseph back in the 1950's. My experience was totally different from hibernianish(see post below). The sisters were excellent teachers and very kind. Never suffered any type of abuse at all. Sorry that his/her experience was so negative. They were firm, but fair. You must remember that in those days it was not uncommon for one sister to have over 60 students in a classroom. Teachers today cannot control even 20 students in a class.
After the abuse I, and other fellow students experienced by the Sisters of St Joseph prior to Vatican 2 ..I have nothing but contempt for them! Did anyone of them ever say : I'm Sorry! Stern disciplianarians? I've have much stronger words for what I seen & experienced!
It's not about the attire, but the person wearing it. Just because more traditional convents are full, doesn't mean that they are more right. It's simply the spirit moving in the world. It will probably turn the other way in time.
Im not sure Vatican II even addresed the attire of Nuns, spirit or Letter. When we see thease, is it anywonder that thease orders are dying out, and more orthodox convents that kept the habits, and even support for the Latin Mass, are filled to the brim with young and new and vibrant members? That some are even filled to capacity? Its time to open your mind and think people!
