Sodick's new EB300 produces high speed mirror-smooth finishes, even on large surfaces, in a very short time. The quality of any surface is determined by the processing method used to produce it. Up to now, the best surface quality has been achieved through difficult and laborious polishing processes. Sodicks new EB300 machine offers a completely new alternative, Electron Beam Machining eliminates hand polishing,
without altering the part geometry. It is a hundred times faster than the old hand polishing process.
In order to achieve its outstanding mirror-smooth surfaces the EB300 uses a 2.35 wide electron beam (composed of Nitrogen & Argon gas) which is applied in extremely shortrepeating bursts, under specially developed exposure conditions. Within a few minutes, mirror-smooth surfaces with tolerances in the picameter range can be
produced. It can take a 2 wide sphere with a 23RMS EDM finish and reduce it down
to a mirrored 4RMS finish within 8 minutes. The EB300 opens up entirely new possibilities, for example shaping the surfaces of die-cast components using EBM process. The EBM process can be applied to a depth of .400, including
vertical walls. before EBM: 23 RMS after EBM: 4RMS
