This is taken from Tim Keller's talk at MIT titled "How Could a Good God Allow Suffering? Belief in an Age of Skepticism."

  • I've always appreciated Tim Keller's honesty about topics like this. I've learned this too: God doesn't owe me an explanation to my suffering. It is enough -- though definitely not an easy-to-accept comfort -- that He said: "This too shall pass." Thanks for posting this.

  • @WhoKnowsWE ...ok.

  • @Dcaff425 if we are talking about an eternity here i couldn't care less about how uncomfortable it will be.

the point is that an eternal state of pane or call it what you will can not even logically be justified unless god is braking the rules of logic with his omnipotence! no need to argue anymore cause god is braking the rules of logic.

  • This anguish and gnashing of teeth might stem from the realization of the mistake a non-believer made BUT at that point, the choices made in the sliver of existence we call life have been irrevocably set in motion.

  • The Bible describes hell as an eternity separated from God. We are all allowed to choose to live life separated from God, so when the day comes that we die and "eternity begins", for lack of better phrasing, we continue on in the choice we made in life. The Bible also describes hell as a place of great anguish and gnashing of teeth. There is no mention of it as torture. On the contrary, it says God's heart breaks for those who do not choose to be with Him.

  • that is just disgusting!

what about those who christians usually believe (didnt do the research wether he does) spend eternity in hell? is that justified?!

dont try to justify pane that wont last for ever when some will (according to christian belief) be tortured for eternity for which there obviously can not possibly be any moral justification!

shame on you if you believe this to be justified!

  • THERE IS NO ANSWER! I liked that part of the answer! It's presumptuous to assume that in the midst of suffering you can have faith and character growth! My doctors have said I will likely suffer until I die!! I HAVE NO HOPE and certainly don't see any in christianity!
