Before the game, Kobe Bryant was 20 points shy of breaking the record for being the youngest player to reach 20,000 points. His very next game would be in his favorite and legendary basketball arena, the Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks. During the game, Bryant was aggressive scoring 12 of the Laker's first 31 points and helping to a 31-21 lead to end the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter, he didn't look to break the record as he had 5 assists in the quarter alone to add with 6 rebounds. On the 2nd possession of the 3rd quarter, Bryant reached the 20,000 point plateau on a 3 point shot on the fast break. He then caught fire in the 3rd knocking down 3 three bombs and nearing the triple double mark. He helped his team reach lead by as much as 25, even taunting and making bets with Chris Rock and Spike Lee. The Knicks fans sure loved it.

At the other end however, Jamal Crawford caught fire knocking jumpshots from every spot on the basketball floor. He helped keep the Knicks close in the 3rd quarter. To make matters worse, Phil Jackson started the killer lineup to start the 4th, the same one that costed LA multiple games earlier in the season. The Knicks took advantage and Crawford took control. Kobe Bryant though was hardly ready to concede as he made his next 4 fadeaway jumpshots. He scored 13 points in the 4th scoring that same amount of points in a row at one point for the Lakers. Jamal Crawford answered with 11 consecutive points of his own helping the Knicks cut the deficit to 1 point(91-90). Bryant answered with a clutch jumper while jawing with Spike Lee and Chris Rock as the Lakers held on for a 95-90 win.

Kobe's statline was 39 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, and on 14-28 from the field and 5-12 from 3 pt.

Yeah those throwbacks without the daisy duke shorts they wore the same year against the Celtics, looked hot. Love the color on the retros. And this game was epic from Kobe, wish he played this type of game all the time.

I think it's interesting to give a link to Jordan's 20,000 point, since it was a bit dramatic also. And like Kobe a 3 pointer ==> watch?v=ccQfp2Usmg0 They both had 19,997.
