where did you get the motor i want to make one to
Jessehond 1 month ago
@Jessehond The motor is a VPI SAMA (Stand Alone Motor Assembly) for an VPI HW-19 turntable. They show up on the used market quite a bit. You could also buy a VPI Motor & Pulley which in either case I would use a VPI platter of some type with a matching bearing to keep the speeds accurate. I highly recommend getting a SDS controller for it too, it makes an amazing difference...

That is beautiful! You do excellent work! Although I'm not a fan of Audio Technica phono cartridges. They make a lot of very low cost P-Mount & 1/2" mount cartridges. They're OK for the price but I would never put one on a tone-arm of this quality. So far the two top cartridges I own is the Shure V15VxMR (discontinued), and the Ortofon OM-30. The best P-Mount cartridge I have is the Ortofon TM-20. I would like to try a Moving Coil cartridge soon. For $500 or less, which do you recommend?

@TwinMillMC - The AT cartridge that is on it was only for testing purposes. Dan actually has a Clearaudio Virtuoso Ebony that I installed on it. The AT cartridge in the video was an AT-12S with a Shibata Stylus on a tapered aluminum cantilever. Right now Needle Doctor is having a sale, 25% off all Ortofons over $500. The 2M Black looks nice.

@TwinMillMC - Ooops! The 2M Black is a MM. I have an AT-OC9 and a Sumiko EVO III and I love both.
