Many writers and (particularly) popularisers of science tend to use language which suggests that there is a particular disposition or attitude which might be induced by this science. This is particularly evident when the 'big ideas' of science are being communicated; evolution, Big Bang Cosmology, etc. which we seem to be encouraged to stand in wonderment of. Whilst this might be fine, and possibly unavoidable, is this quasi-religious disposition necessary? And if it is then what is the relationship between this disposition and the facts as explained?

  • I would add Brian Green, Paul Davies, Seth Lloyd and Michael Frayn to your list...The interesting thing is that so many of these writers have such different views of what the universe actually IS...

  • Thanks for the additions, and for having the fortitude to listen to these on-the-hoof mumblings!

  • You are able to externalize many of the issues and problems which every introspective person thinks about. I have similar thought patterns, but I would be unable to express those thoughts with your facility. My medium is usually writing...So I appreciate watching. Thanks for making these.
